Summer in Méribel: What We Do When You’re Not Here

  When the last tartiflette has been served, the final pair of ski boots is packed away, and we close the doors on our chalets for summer, you might wonder... what on earth do we do?

Well, we’re glad you asked.

Contrary to popular belief, we don’t just vanish into the mountains and sleep for half the year. A small handful of us work year round, and while winter is full-on (and we mean 24/7, living-on-WhatsApp, trying-to-remember-the-last-time-we-sat-down full-on), summer brings a much-needed chance to reset... and finally reply to all the messages we ignored in January.

We get our lives back (mostly)

With no guests, no chalets to manage, and no team of 40 to keep fuelled, housed, and vaguely on time, we can do truly wild things… like take weekends off. Or go camping without signal. Or drink a cup of tea while it’s still hot.

Méribel in summer is a dream. The sun shines, the mountains turn green, the lakes calls, the BBQs come out, and suddenly we remember we have friends to check in on. We get outside, we slow down a little, and for the first time in months, our phones are not glued to our hands.

It’s not alllll rosé and sunhats though

When we’re not off enjoying the sunshine or spending five hours perfecting the art of the grilled courgette, we are also quietly gearing up for the next winter. Behind the scenes, summer is when we:

• Refresh inventory
• Revisit menus and training plans
• Recruit and interview the incoming winter crew
• Plot and plan how to make next season even better than the last

There may be fewer spreadsheets than in winter, but they’re still there. We just get to look at them with a view.

Recharge, reset, repeat

By the time autumn rolls around, our team is rested, recharged, and just about ready to trade in our flip-flops for snow boots again. We love the energy of winter, the chaos, the guests, the team, the snow but summer is where we catch our breath and remember why we do it all. So if you’re picturing us sunbathing in ski jackets, sipping wine in the gondola... you’re not entirely wrong. But we’re also working hard to make sure that when you walk through the chalet door next season, it’s even more magical than the last time. And yes... we’ll answer your WhatsApp then.

We promise we’re not just twiddling our thumbs until the snow returns… though if you’d like to keep us busy, the best way is to book one of our beautiful catered chalets for this winter season.
